TexSEF is a teacher-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit esports organization serving Texas Schools. Donations help us pay operation costs, host events, and provide non-monetary prizes for students. Donations are tax-deductible.

Riot Games announced that any high school esports league can now host season-long, school-versus-school competitions for “League of Legends,” effectively ending an exclusive partnership between the publisher and PlayVS, a for-profit start-up that hosts a platform for amateur esports competitions.

The Purpose of Esports In Education

Texas students have many opportunities when it comes to extracurricular activities and school. Since esports is so new, students must look outside our state to compete. We wanted to provide opportunities that:

  • Allowed Students to compete with other schools in the area

  • Provides scholarships to the local universities and colleges

  • Helps school districts see and justify the value in esports

  • Brings together community in a fun way

  • Celebrates students and finds ways to align gaming with student outcomes and educational goals

  • Bring in large companies that support esports around the country

Texas is made up of 1,029 school districts. Both large and small districts can compete in an esports event on equal ground and as an organization we feel like this is an incredible opportunity to bring us together.
